Water Pipeline Project Facts
Distribution Network
¨ Approximately 400 households will eventually be serviced by the pipeline. As of fall of 2009 the project will be approximatley 3/4 complete with almost 300 users hooked up.
¨ Future phases will be designed to branch off the main pipeline into other areas. Progress will occur as funding allows.
¨ 56 km of pipeline was installed in 2004 to service 29 households.
¨ From 20042008, approximately 400 km of pipeline was installed to service 260 farms and households.
¨ Main pipeline sizes vary from 50mm (2) to 300mm (12).
¨ Household service connections vary from 38mm (1-1/2) to 50mm (2).
¨ The piped water rate is $1.18/m3 ($5.25/1000 Gal). The truck fill rate is $1.62/m3 ($7.20/1000 Gal.) and is available at the WTF and the Kola Truck Fill.
Treatment equipment/Process:
¨ .Fully automated 14-cell (9 cells Stage 1; 5 cells Stage 2) reverse osmosis membrane treatment unit
¨ Provides up to 20 L/s (270 gallons/minute) of treated water (permeate).
¨ Pre-treatment filters are used to remove any particulate matter.
¨ Membrane filtration process forces high pressure water (150 psi) through Stage 1 membranes that removes molecules larger than water molecules, such as minerals, metals and biota.
¨ Reject stream from Stage 1 cells flows to Stage 2 cells for further treatment, to minimize the volume of waste water.
¨ Approximately 75% of the incoming water volume becomes permeate water (remaining 25% becomes reject water).
¨ Caustic soda is added to stabilize the pH to between 7.2 7.8.
¨ Permeate water is chlorinated as it enters the reservoir.
¨ Final product is soft, safe and ready for distribution.
¨ The water tastes wonderful. It is nice and soft. The water is crystal clear and has no (chlorine) odour. (Bev Eilers).
¨ It is Fantastic and will save us an enormous amount of money. (My wife) Glenda is amazed at the household benefits. It uses less soap, is softer on the skin and hair, and means no more bottled water for drinking. (Dwight Pollock).
¨ Hooking up was one of the more exciting days for the Peters household. I was expecting a chlorine odour, but this water is odourless. Also, the softening system is no longer required. (Walter Peters).
¨ Even though we promoted this water as high quality, soft and drinkable, it is incredible that people are saying it is better than they expected. (Reeve Vince Heaman).

The Connection Cost includes bringing the service line from the main pipeline into the house (or other insulated building) right to the water meter, provided the work is done during the construction period. Hook-up to household plumbing is at property owners expense. Each property connection requires its own meter.
If you decide to sign up for the project after the deadline, please be aware that the hook-up costs will be as follows:
¨ 1-1/2 Line (5/8 meter): $10,500 plus all installation costs from main line to water meter.
¨ 2 Line (3/4 meter): $13,000 plus all installation costs from main line to water meter.
¨ 3 Line (2 meter): $50,000 plus all installation costs from main line to water meter.
We encourage everyone to sign up early, before the design is finalized, to keep your costs to a minimum. Sign up here!
Wallace Water Supply System
¨ ¨ Well was developed in Fall 2004.
¨ ¨ Well head was built up to the estimated 100-year flood water elevation.
¨ Shaft is 9.1m (30) deep and 350mm (12) in diameter.
¨ Pump is multi-stage, 125 HP, with a variable frequency drive; pump pressure set at 190 psi.
¨ Total lift to Water Treatment Facility (WTF) is 100m (330).
¨ Pump capacity is rated at 54 L/s (750 gallons per minute).
¨ Pipeline to WTF is 350mm (12) high-density polyethylene pipe (HDPE 9).
¨ Located in the R.M. of Wallace, 4.8 km south of the well site, adjacent to PTH #83 near the Assiniboine Valley.
¨ Capacity - 400,000 L (100,000 gal).
¨ ♦ Reinforced concrete construction.
¨ ♦ 10m x 20m steel building superstructure.
¨ Designed to allow for future expansion when needed.
¨ Back-up generator is provided to distribute water during a power failure.
¨ Truck fill with card lock system is available for bulk purchasers at the WTF and at the Kola pump house.
¨ Two booster stations are used to lift the water to the SW corner of the RM.
